NO JUSTICE

Duffis, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I agree that sometimes life seems so twisted. Lung cancer is such a horrid disease and it's sources are so varied: smoking (first- or second-hand), asbestos, airborne pollutants, radiation, some combination of these and/or the ones not listed here. Enjoy him while you can, Duffis. His memory will warm your heart later. What changes when one of your friends has received the death sentence and invites you over to talk. Lung Cancer and never smoked a day in his life. Me..no Cancer and smoked for 58-59 years. His wifeshe is still smoking like a chimney. Doesnt seem like there is justice in the world any more. Well down to the cellar we go, park on a bench and break open a jar of white liquor or lightning what ever you prefer to call it. This particular pint was flavored with real strawberries and was about 10 year old. We didnt solve any problems but we sure ended up feeling good; for a while anyway death didnt go away. He offered me the whole shelve which contained about 40 pints he had made over the many years that he farmed. It is ironic that his crops were tobacco and soy beans. I told him that I would not be able to ever drink another pint from this collection with him being gone from this world, we both cried for awhile but what the hell we are both in our 70s so life is just a rerun anyway. What is the point of this post anyway? Am I about to climb up on the pulpit and start preaching? I dont think so. Maybe a simple message would be appropriate. Value your friends and family for you never know when they might leave you. If you smoke quit it, if you never smoked dont start. Duffis

First off I wish to sincerely thank all of you for your kindness and posts. Secondly you have to understand that both myself and friend are ok with death, it is a big part of life. When we came up life expectancy was only 50-55 years at best. Look how far we have come in medical technology and the extention of life. They put a tatoo on my friends chest to mark the spot where they are going to radiate the hell out of him; no chemo for awhile anyway. The think that really bothers me is if he contaminates the rest of the moonshine with radiation I'm goin be pi**ed off. It was a given death sentence for this type of lung cancer but now the Drs feel that they have a 40% chance with Chemo and Radiation to give him a few more years. I would not do it myself but my friend is going to give it a try. I will keep you posted. Thank you again Duffis

"Value your friends and family for you never know when they might leave you." Great advice, Bob. My first husband died of bone cancer when he was 24 years old. Cancer and nicotine are 2 of the ugliest words I know. Both wreck havoc wherever they go. Prayers to you and yours, Hummy My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/5/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 314 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,595 Amount Saved: $2041 Life Gained: Days: 40 Hrs: 20 Mins: 1 Seconds: 30
