fear of blindness

Oh my gosh - I have this, too! People always talk about blurry vision with anxiety but never the floaters and flashing lights. I have looked into it though. I read something about dry eye syndrome. If you can blink a few times or rub your eyes and it goes away, that's most likely all it is. Dry eye syndrome comes from spending a lot of time on a computer or watching tv or reading a lot. It's nothing dangerous - just annoying. I have also read that you should have an eye doctor look at it to make sure you don't need glasses or need to have your prescription changed if you have glasses. I haven't yet. I don't know why it's so hard for me to make appointments for myself! GEEZ :confuse: The floaters are just build up of proteins in the eye fluid and the flashes come from the floaters reflecting a light that hit it just right. After some debate, I also wanted to mention one other thing about the flashers. I was debating because I understand how easy it is to panic about anything. I read somewhere that the flashes could be a sign of a stroke. HOWEVER - if you have no other signs of stroke (extreme weakness on either side of your body, one side of your face drooping, slurred words, dizziness, stumbling or clumsiness, extreme headache) then it is not a sign of stroke - so, don't panic about that unless you have the other signs mentioned above. Anyways, I hope the last part didn't freak you out. I just thought I should mention it. I hope the rest of the info I put in helped.

Does anyone else have a fear of going blind? I have sudden acute fear that I am suddenly going to lose my sight. When I have periods of long lasting anxiety I get these patterns and flashing lights and a lot visual distortion which lats about 20mins where I see everything in zig zag style. Has anybody else experienced this? sue b
