Couldn't resist the invitation to come and talk about cigars! Hi Houston, I'm the mad englishman and I know all about cigars....you see, I smoked them for twenty years. There are a lot of misconceptions about them and I will try to dispel some of the myths. They are made from exactly the same thing as cigarettes, tobacco! They do not have a filter so whatever small amount of the rubbish that gets removed in a cigarette, it all gets through a cigar. It is true that you are technically not supposed to inhale....most ex cigarette smokers do to a certain extent........and then generally almost throw up as the double strength dose of nicotine, tar and toxic matter hits the lungs! Then, as you are forced not to inhale, the chemicals attack the lining of the throat and mouth. The nicotine is absorbed rapidly through the mouth lining in the same way as gum and lozenges work. Cigar smokers have very high rates of mouth and throat cancer. As the addiction works by forcing us to top up established levels of nicotine in our bodies, the high doses from cigars can actually cause us to smoke them almost as frequently as cigarettes....the limiting factor being almost feeling sick through overdoses of everything. I remember a coach trip with the lads once where i ended up almost chain smoking cigars whilst playing cards. I had to stop because I was almost choking. The one circumstance where cigars are perfectly safe is when you shred them over a nice salad and a juicy steak. The fact that they still contain nicotine that could be absorbed through the stomach is not the slightest problem.........because they taste like Duffis' carpet after his dog has p*ssed on it. :8o: Brent My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/8/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 264 Amount Saved: 185 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 6 Mins: 59 Seconds: 53

Uh Houston, YES they are. While I have never smoked cigars myself I have read that they can be worse for you. We need for Brent the mad Englihsman to come in here and talk to you since cigars was his addiction. Maybe he'll pop in later and give you some of his british wit. Houston, Yes, cigars are STILL harmful. Your lips absorb nicotine when you suck on it AND there is nicotine and other harmful tonxins in the smoke coming off from the cigar, whether you actually inhale the cigar or not. So yes, cigars are still VERY harmful. It is best to quit altogether. If you need an NRT of some sort to help you with the cravings, that might be a good solution for you. Crave the Quit! houston, Yes, we do have a problem! (no pun intended!) Cigars? Here is a good substitute for you. Find some dog poop, the kind that has dried out, roll it up in some leaves.. light it! It will smell about the same as a cigar and probably not be as bad for you! Seriously, cigars are not the answer. I have a buddy who quit a 3 pack a day habit only to have an "occasional" cigar. Well, that has turned into a 1/2 dozen a day habit. He says he will quit those one day.. yeah, sure. Smoke, in any form, is bad news. Period. Be Strong. Be Smart. Sorry Houston that noone is giving you the answer you want. Unfortunately, this is just another junkie thought. It is novel...at least I hadn't heard this one before... but it still is only that - junkie talk. I fear that the only one who will support you in this is Nico demon! He is talking loudly right now trying to get you to let down your resolve. Unfortunately, there is no way to stop smoking except to stop smoking. Easy? NOPE. Simple? YES. Hang in there! Withdrawal doesn't last forever.
