Dh is a jerk!

I was here reading and posting and he asked me if this was a place for smokers to gather and tell themselves it's okay and we can quit smoking. I told him it was and he said, "The only motivation you need is this," as he put a picture of my son in front of the computer screen. He just doesn't get it. I'm really angry right now. T. Your assumptions are right on. Dh (usually stands for dear husband, in this case substitute dear w/ any 4 letter word) is a non-smoker who has never, ever had a cigarette in his life and has no clue what this is like. T. Hang in T! He just doesn't get it and that is okay, he doesn't have to get it! As long as you do! Stay close and forget what he says. Yeah, your son IS a big motivation but we need more to get through this! TXsT... Hang in there. I was married to a non-smoker once. They don't understand the power of the addiction but I didn't either when I smoked. Keep taking deep breaths and keep on quitting no matter what. Like Hummy said, let the anger go. It's not good for you, your quit, or your marriage. You are going to be so glad you quit. Hang on tight. This ride gets a little rough. Come here and vent anytime you need to. TXsT, They're right on the money. It is YOUR quit. It makes sense that a non-smoker would underestimate the difficulty by a few decimal points, but remember that he's trying to help. Perhaps you can convince him to see it this way: Your son is a big PART of the reason, so are YOU, and so is your relationship. Our kids are also excellent MOTIVATORS, but something like this is too easy to screw up if we dismiss the support and encouragement available here. Make sure that Dh knows that it's you that wants what he has, to not be a smoker, and that his support should allow you all the tools you need, wherever you may need to find them and for however long you need them. We're here for you. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 62 Amount Saved: $71.05 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 1 Mins: 52 Seconds: 41

Hi TXsT, Be CALM. Im assuming Dh is your husband and that he is a non-smoker. Hes probably trying to help. He just doesnt understand. So keep your quit, calm your temper (it doesnt help), and forgive Dh(who is probably at a loss). Remember to reward yourself and pamper yourself and that its YOUR quit. Not cravin', never cavin'. bugg! That's a great post! :) A new formula for "the quit": MOTIVATION + TOOLS + DETERMINATION = SUCCESSFUL QUIT Not cravin', never cavin'. Maybe explaining it to him like this will help... MOTIVATIONS to quit are children, family, our own health and well-being, finances, freedom, etc. TOOLS for quitting are NRT's, wellbutrin, hard candies, straws, ice water, deep breathing, the SSC, real life support, etc. How well we use the TOOLS we choose while keeping our MOTIVATIONS in mind is key to a quit. Throw in a little DETERMINATION and we can do it! I think I just made a new formula! heehee MOTIVATION + TOOLS + DETERMINATION = SUCCESSFUL QUIT Look at this way...if I wanted to build a new house, I wouldn't just pin the sketch of it to the wall and expect it to build itself. I would have to figure out what tools I needed and be determined to work hard and go through alot to make sure that in time, it would be built. Keep it going.... TX, Make this about you and protect your quit at all times. You have every right to be angry, but this is his way of showing support :) Use this as a tool to stay quit, and use the determination to do this. Let us help guide you and please take some time to re-focus and relax yourself :) Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
