Hi JayT,
Welcome to the SSC.
I also quit using the patch, at least for the 1st month. You have went for more than 2 days (you shouldn't smoke while using the patch BTW) without smoking and that is progress!! Be sure and reward yourself. Take it one step at a time, baby steps if needed. If you haven't done so yet, go through the "my program" at the top of the page. It will help prepare you for your quit journey. Another thing you should do is read through the forums and try and learn all you can about what to expect on your quit. There's all kinds of tips from other smokers, and some of them may work for you.
As you said, the patch seems to be working on the physical part of your quit, but the mental part is what's really hard and that's where learning what to expect comes into play. You have to be prepared for the fight. That Nico-Demon is nasty and strong and he'll try his darnedest to get you to give up and start smoking again. Don't give in. Take back YOUR life. Nobody can do it for you, only you can. Just remember WHY you wanted to quit. Keep the loved ones you lost in the back of your mind and when an urge comes, remember them and hopefully they will give you some strength.
Some things that might help fight the sudden urge are deep breathing, eating a healthy treat, (or a sweet treat if that's all that will work) exercise or walking, playing with a stress ball, tennis ball or rubber band, sucking on a straw. There's many more and they can be found in the forums here. Use the search function, it is handy, but it only goes back two years.
Stay strong and hang in there, it will get better and easier as time goes by.
